Oxford University Boat Club

Dr John Sichel has been the medical officer for the Boat Club for over ten years. He has gained considerable experience of sports medicine during that time and arranges a thorough health screen for all athletes joining the OUBC squad. Squad members are closely monitored from the start of their training period through to the Boat Race, and beyond to the Henley Regatta and European or World Championships.

Rowers can be at particular risk of over-training and are advised to contact us as soon as possible in the event of an injury or illness. OUBC members have access to the OUBC physiotherapy service, and access to other investigations or treatment will be arranged as efficiently as possible.

Other Athletes

If you suffer a sports injury, we would encourage you to arrange an appointment as soon as possible. We have a close relationship with the local physiotherapy and orthotic services and will do our best to facilitate your treatment whenever possible.

We advise all professional or top-level athletes to consider obtaining suitable medical insurance to ensure rapid access to investigations or treatment in the event of an injury.

For information on first aid for sprains visit www.patient.co.uk (external site).

Joint Manipulation

Joint manipulation can help improve joint flexibility and stability, relieve pain and improve joint function. Dr John Sichel has received training in joint manipulation techniques; call 01865 311811 for further information or to book an appointment.
