Mental Health

 

Oxford University Counselling Service

The University has a professionally staffed, confidential Student Counselling Service for personal, emotional, social and academic problems. It is available free to all undergraduate and graduate members. Open weekdays from 9.15am to 5.15pm. Appointments can be made by visiting the office at 11 Wellington Square, by phoning 01865 270300 or by e-mail.  Remember that e-mail may not be entirely confidential.

Nightline

Nightline is an independent listening, support and information service run for and by students; you don't even have to give your name. Phone them on 01865 (2)70270. Open 8pm to 8am,  from the beginning of the University 0th week until the end of 9th week.

Samaritans

Phone 01865 722122. Samaritans is available 24 hours a day to provide confidential emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide.

Relate
(Oxfordshire)

Relate offers advice, relationship counselling, sex therapy, workshops, mediation, consultations and support face-to-face, by phone and via a website. Phone 01865 242960.

Cruse
(Bereavement)

Bereavement care. Phone 01865 245398. Anyone can contact Cruse if they want to talk about themselves or someone they know who has been affected by a death.

Eating Disorders Association

Phone 0845 634 1414 (8.30am - 8.30pm) for information and help on all aspects of eating disorders including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and related eating disorders.

Where to get contraception

Free contraceptive advice and supplies (e.g. free condoms) are available from your GP, the Alec Turnbull Clinic (Family Planning Clinic) - Old Blackbird Leys Health Centre, 63 Blackbird Leys Road, Blackbird Leys, Oxford OX4 6HL (01865 456666). Contraception is free of charge to everyone.

Harrison Department
 

British Pregnancy Advisory Service

 
The Harrison Department (GUM Clinic) is located at the Churchill Hospital (01865 231231) - It is a free clinic offering information, counselling and testing for HIV & AIDS and all other sexually transmitted infections.
 

BPAS offer counselling on the issues surrounding unwanted pregnancy, and provide an abortion service. They can be contacted on 0845 730 4030.

Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Line

The Chilton Clinic

The Chilton Clinic at the Warneford Hospital provides a 24 hour drugs/alcohol advisory service on 01865 226243.

National Drugs Helpline

The National Drugs Helpline is a 24/7 free and confidential telephone service that offers advice and information for those who are concerned, or have questions about drugs. The service is available to anyone. Phone 0800 776600

Drinkline

The National Alcohol Helpline. Phone 0800 917 8282 (9.00am-11.00pm, Monday to Friday).

Alcoholics Anonymous

If you, or someone you know, needs help with a drink problem phone 01865 242373. AA help and advice is free to all who request it.
